Choosing Patio and Garden Furniture
Outdoor garden and patio furniture falls into two main types; the temporary furniture you pull out for when the sun comes out or guests are coming over, or the permanent furniture fixtures which are an intrinsic part of your garden design year in, year out.
When looking to buy temporary patio furntiure you need to look at how much space you have available for storage and how easy your chosen furniture is to store. Look for such things as fold-up tables for easy storage and chairs which are easily stackable. This type of outdoor furniture is typically made from light materials like plastic, aluminium and resin in order to make them more portable and is not really suitable for leaving outside all year round.
More permanent garden furniture like picnic tables or benches are made from much sturdier, weather resistent materials like treated hardwood, wrought iron and stone. Whereas temporary furniture is designed with utility and comfort in mind, this type of outdoor furniture is designed as much to be aesthetically pleasing as anything else. Fortunately, there are garden furniture cushions available in all shapes and sizes to make any of these more permanent furntiure sets more comfortable for longer periods.
Before making a purchasing decision then, you should decide what you require your garden furniture for - as a permanent feature of the garden or something to be pulled out when the sun shines - and buy accordingly. If it is a piece of furniture like a sun lounger where you will be using it for long periods at a time then comfort is a very big issue and should be the most important part of your decision.
It is also a good idea to consider the style of your garden and the style of the furniture you are putting in there. For example, a rustic, cottage garden will be complemented by traditinal designs whilst a modern white plastic patio set will undoubtedly look totally out of place and ruin the whole feel of your garden area. Equally, take a look at the space you have available, bearing in mind the amount of space taken up by something like a patio furniture set is effectively a lot more than the actual physical measurements of the furniture itself. You still need space to gain easy access to it without feeling cramped or hemmed in.
